Our story · Keycaps first

Keycaps
first.

No boards, no switches, no software. Six profiles of keycap, printed on five sides, packed and shipped by us. Other things for the desk will come later — but only once they’re as good as the caps.

Raking light across the top faces of a row of keycaps
The surface01

Raking light across the top face. This grain is the reason the legends stay matte.

Legends printed on the sloped faces of dark keycaps
The legend02

Printed on the wall as well as the top, so it survives the angle you actually type at.

The fit03

143 keys covers 60% through full-size — the board you already own, not just ours.

01

An acorn is the smallest part of the tree — and the only part that decides how big it gets.

That’s the whole idea. A keyboard is a system of a hundred decisions, and the keycap is the last one, the cheapest one, and the only one you’re in physical contact with for eight hours a day.

So we make that one. Not the case, not the plate, not the cable. The thing your fingertips actually land on.

Why an acornSmall, hard, and holding a whole tree inside it. Same argument for caring about the one part you actually touch.

02

Most stores sell you a keyboard. We’d rather sell you the part you keep.

A set that only fits the board you bought from us would be a trap, so ours covers 60% through full-size — 143 keys, enough for the layouts people actually build. Buy the feel first, then find the size.

It also means we can’t hide behind a bundle. If the caps aren’t good, there’s nothing else in the box to make up for it.

What comes afterOther pieces for the desk will follow, but only once each one clears the same bar as the caps. Keycaps stay the main line.

03

Five sides, because you look at a keyboard from an angle.

Dye-sublimation wraps every visible wall of the cap, so the legend stays legible whether you’re sitting square or leaning back. Pad-printed legends look fine in a photo and wear to a shine in a year.

The photos are shot on the bench in daylight, and we keep the corrections to exposure and white balance. Colour still shifts from screen to screen, so treat them as a close guide rather than an exact match.

Why we keep it simpleBench light, minimal correction. Past that, no photograph can promise what a cap looks like in your room — so go by the feel, not the hex.

“Everything else — colour, kit size, legends — is taste.”

A note
From the bench

If you’ve read this far, you’re the kind of customer we built this for.

We started because we couldn’t find a set that felt right after a year of daily use — everything looked good in photos and turned shiny by month three. So we went looking for a printer who would do five sides, and then for a profile that didn’t feel like typing on a tray.

That’s the entire business plan. Pick the material first, print it properly, photograph it honestly, and keep the range small enough that we can still check every run by hand.

These are still photographs of small objects taken under one lamp. If something arrives and it isn’t what you pictured, write to us — we’ll sort it out.
